Cowboys Respond to Emmitt's "Trash"-ing
Saturday August 2, 2003
In comments to "Sports Illustrated", Emmitt Smith said playing for last year's Cowboys "felt like being a diamond surrounded by trash." Considering Smith rushed for a career-low 975 yards, and his most recent performance, a loss to the Redskins in his final game in a Cowboys uniform, netted just 13 yards on 18 carries, I find it interesting that he feels the need to announce to the world that he was somehow not a part of the problem.
Cowboys owner Jerry Jones barely flinched at Smith's comments, but running back Troy Hambrick, Smith's successor, asked The Dallas Star-Telegram, "Who did he consider a diamond?"
Offensive tackle Flozell Adams added, "If we're trash, he's trash, too, because he was here last year. I noticed he didn't say anything while he was here."
