According to ESPN, New York Giants controversial tight end Jeremy Shockey had some very disparaging comments for Dallas Cowboys head coach Bill Parcells in an article set to be released by "New York Magazine" on Monday. Among other things, Shockey allegedly called Parcells a homo and a quitter.
The author of the story, Chris Smith, quotes Shockey as saying, "Let's see how much Parcells wins this year. I'll make him pay when we play them. The homo."
Shockey is also reported to have said, "He says he quits, then he wants to come back and coach. Do something. Stay in commentary or stay in football or get the hell out of everybody's life."
After Thursday's preseason game against the New England Patriots, Shockey denied making the comments, saying he is "100% sure" he didn't do it. Smith says he has the entire conversation on tape and the quotes are accurate.
Smith also says Shockey went on at great length about what a "publicity hound" Parcells is and how Shockey is going to make him pay when the two teams meet this season.
Shockey is known for speaking his mind and for his extreme behavior on the field. He was fined $10,000 as a rookie for throwing a cup of ice into the stands and making an obscene gesture during last season's first-round playoff loss at San Francisco. He also made some unflattering comments about homosexuals on Howard Stern's radio show in September of 2002.
Shockey was named Rookie of the Year in 2002 after setting Giants tight-end records with 74 catches for 894 yards.
