Bettis Loses Starting Job to Zereoue
Wednesday August 20, 2003
Head coach Bill Cowher has named Amos Zereoue over Jerome Bettis as the Pittsburgh Steelers starting running back when the regular season opens. Zereoue, 26, made five starts last season and rushed for 762 yards on 193 carries. He also caught 42 passes for 341 yards.
Bettis has shown signs of the wear and tear his body has taken from years of pounding and being pounded, and he appeared to have lost a step in 2002, but he had a fantastic off-season and is in marvelous shape.
According to The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, Cowher emphasized that both players will still play a big role in the running game.
