Carter's the Starter, Stoerner Released
Saturday August 23, 2003
Dallas Cowboys head coach Bill Parcells named Quincy Carter the starting quarterback over rival Chad Hutchinson. The Dallas Morning News reports Parcells informed the quarterbacks of his decision in a 10-second discussion Saturday morning. (Geez Bill, what took so long?)
While not outstanding, Carter outperformed Hutchinson for most of the preseason, and most importantly, he didn't turn over the football. Parcells insists on a quarterback who can avoid mistakes and likes to let his defense create scoring opportunities for the offense.
Hutchinson will compete with rookie free agent Tony Romo for the backup job. Veteran backup Clint Stoerner was released.
