Rams' Pace Ends Holdout
Tuesday August 26, 2003
Holdout tackle Orlando Pace rejoined the St. Louis Rams in time for the afternoon practice session Tuesday after agreeing to sign a one-year contract at the franchise tender offer of $5.73 million. The four-time Pro Bowler, who was holding out in hopes of working out a long-term deal, has not taken part in any team activities since being named a franchise player.
Obviously this is not the long-term contract that Pace and his agent Carl Poston are seeking. Early in the offseason, Pace's agent proposed a seven-year, $80 million contract with a signing bonus of $23.75 million. The Rams were willing to offer "only" $42 million with a signing bonus somewhere around $11 million.
