Shanny Won't Avoid Fine this Time
Sunday September 21, 2003
The NFL Today and CBS SportsLine are reporting that the commissioner's office is poised to slap Denver Broncos head coach Mike Shanahan with a substantial fine for showing up in San Diego with the wrong uniforms last Sunday.
After getting off lightly for not correctly reporting an injury suffered by quarterback Jake Plummer in their contest with the Chargers, it appears the NFL is ready to hit Shanahan with a five-figure fine for his blatant disregard for the league's uniform policy.
As is NFL policy, teams decide before the season which uniforms they will wear, and the Chargers chose to wear their white jerseys, which only makes sense since they play in a warm-weather venue. But when Shanny's boys showed up with only their white jerseys, it sent the Chargers scrambling for their blue jerseys, reversing any advantage that might be gained by the lighter jerseys.
