Herm Hot About Woody's Words
Friday September 26, 2003
New York Jets head coach Herman Edwards, unhappy with recent comments by Woody Johnson (one of our all-time favorite names), challenged the team's owner to fire him if he's not satisfied with the job the third-year field general is doing.
"He said he's going to keep doing things the same way he has and if anybody doesn't like it, they can fire him," one player told the Newark Star-Ledger. "I think he's upset that the owner came out and said the things he did."
The Jets have started the season 0-3, prompting Johnson to publicly state that the Jets have as much talent as any team in the league and they are a playoff caliber team. I guess someone forgot to inform Woody that starting quarterback Chad Pennington and top cover cornerback Donnie Abraham are out with injuries, defensive tackle Josh Evans is serving a drug suspension and four key players (wide receiver Laveranues Coles, kicker John Hall, kick returner Chad Morton and right guard Randy Thomas) were stolen out from under his nose by the Washington Redskins.
