Brenda-Gate Part II

Tuesday September 30, 2003
Brenda Warner, the wife of former St. Louis Rams quarterback Kurt Warner, is up to her old tricks again. Mrs. Warner said in an interview on St Louis radio station WMLL Monday that her husband would welcome a trade if he is not the Rams starting quarterback by the end of the season.

When asked if her husband would seek a trade at the end of the season Brenda Warner said, "Probably, just from the point that we (we?) want to play, he wants to play, plain and simple. So, if he's not going to play here, then he wants to play somewhere."

Kurt Warner echoed her sentiments later Monday evening, possibly hoping to prove that his wife is not the only one who wears the pants in their family.

"I think it's odd that people make a big issue of something you'd expect any player to say", he told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. "The whole issue is that I want to play."

Actually, we here at About Football think the issue is not whether Kurt wants to be a starter. It's not unusual in the NFL for a player to request a trade after losing their starting job. The real issue is that we would expect Kurt himself to bring up the trade request instead of letting his wife continue to speak for him.

We also have to agree with Rams president John Shaw when he wonders why the hell the wife of an NFL player has her own weekly radio segment!
