From the Rumor Mill...

Sunday October 19, 2003
Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk, in Sunday's rumors column, discusses the possiblity that two high-profile NFL head coaches could have new addresses when the 2004 season rolls around. The first is Dick Vermeil, who has yet to get a contract extension despite a great start by his Kansas City Chiefs. Apparently, Vermeil wants more power over personnel decisions, but team president Carl Peterson doesn't want to give it up.

So where might Vermeil end up? According to Florio, Bill Bidwell of the Arizona Cardinals might be willing to give Vermeil all the power he wants if he brings his three-year plan to the desert. Another possibility includes a return to the St. Louis Rams in the event that Mike Martz is relieved of his duties at the end of the season.

Also rumored to be considering a change is the Washington Redskins' Steve Spurrier. Apparently he is miffed at owner Daniel Snyder for siding with Vice President of Player Personnel Vinny Cerrato on the decision to cut quarterback Danny Wuerffel. However, as Florio points out, overruling the Ball Coach may have been an indication that the honeymoon is over in Washington and the two parties could part ways at the end of the season if the Redskins fail to make the playoffs.
