Moving to Manhattan
Friday November 14, 2003
According to "BuisnessWeek" magazine, the New York Jets are eyeing a location on Manhattan's west side to place a $1 billion retractable-dome stadium. The stadium, which is expected to be announced in the next couple months, will be funded mostly by the Jets, although taxpayers will likely foot the bill for infrastruture improvements. The NFL would also provide some financing through a special loan program for new stadium construction.
City officials have estimated that the new stadium could eventually generate $2 billion a year in new tax revenues, and are hoping it will help in their bid to host the 2012 Olympics and possibly land a future Super Bowl.
