Oklahoma cornerback Derrick Strait was named the 2003 Bronko Nagurski Trophy winner on Monday as the top defensive college football player of the year. Strait beat out defensive tackle and teammate Tommie Harris, UCLA defensive end Dave Ball, LSU defensive tackle Chad Lavalais and West Virginia linebacker Grant Wiley.
Strait led the Big 12 with four fumble recoveries, was fourth in the conference with 12 passes defended, and also pulled in three interceptions.
