Chargers Not on Manning's List?
Wednesday April 21, 2004
As if we haven't had to make enough last-minute adjustments to the About Football Mock Draft already, the camp of potential No. 1 overall selection Eli Manning has thrown yet another monkey wrench into the equation.
On Wednesday night, ESPN's Chris Mortenson confirmed with San Diego Chargers general manager A.J. Smith that Manning's father Archie, through agent Tom Condon, had issued a request that the Lightning Bolts not make the younger Manning this year's top pick. In fact, Manning would prefer the Chargers trade the pick to his first choice, the New York Giants, so they can make him No. 1 overall.
According to Mortensen, Smith told Condon that he understands Eli Manning's desire to play in New York but plans to do what's best for the Chargers organization.
