Bulger In, Warner on His Way Out?
Tuesday May 4, 2004
On Tuesday, the St. Louis Rams announced that they've reached a four-year deal with quarterback Marc Bulger, further greasing the skids for Kurt Warner's much-anticipated exile from the greatest show on turf.
Terms of the deal have not been disclosed, but according to SportsLine's Jay Glazer, the deal is worth $17.25 million and includes a $9 million signing bonus.
ESPN's John Clayton reports that Bulger signed a one-year tender at $1.824 million, along with a three-year extension at $17.25 million, including a $9 million signing bonus.
Bulger's extension makes it hard for the Rams to justify paying Warner the type of money he is scheduled to receive, so a June 1st roster cut is almost a certainty. Barring an agreement to return at a significantly reduced salary, which is about as likely as the establishment of an annual Terrell Owens Day in Baltimore, Warner won't be back in St. Louis for the 2004 season unless it's as a member of the opposition.
