Free Agent Roundup
Thursday June 3, 2004
In other news on the free-agent front, linebackers Jason Gildon of the Pittsburgh Steelers and Jeremiah Trotter of the Washington Redskins joined the free agent ranks Wednesday when they were cut by their respective teams.
The Denver Broncos, using the addition-by-subtraction philosophy, cut loose 2003 free-agent bust Daryl Gardener, who is expected to sign with the Cincinnati Bengals soon.
On the other side of the free-agent fence, tight end Stephen Alexander, who played the last two seasons with the San Diego Chargers, was signed to a one-year, $1.25 million deal by the Detroit Lions. In the wake of this deal, the club is allowing Mikhael Ricks, the team's top receiving tight end in 2004, to seek a trade.
Unrestricted free agent cornerback Terrell Buckley has also reached an agreement with the Super Bowl champion New England Patriots on a one-year contract, marking his third tour of duty with the team.
