Testaverde, Tuna Reunite
Thursday June 3, 2004
The Dallas Cowboys announced at a press conference Thursday afternoon that they have signed veteran quarterback Vinny Testaverde to a one-year deal. Although it's unclear at this time exactly what his role will be, most likely he will serve as backup to Quincy Carter unless/until the time comes that the four-year veteran fails to give the Cowboys their best chance at winning now.
The move has been anticipated for much of the off-season because of Testaverde's ties with Cowboys head coach Bill Parcells, who coached him two seasons (1998-99) with the New York Jets.
Testaverde, the former No. 1 overall pick in the 1987 draft, was released by the New York Jets Tuesday for salary cap reasons, however, the 40-year-old quarterback will still count $3.5 million on the Jets' cap this year, and another $4 million next year.
