O.J. Remarks Embarrassing
Monday June 7, 2004
Probably the most infamous character in NFL history, O.J. Simpson added yet another chapter of embarrassment to an already-ugly past.
In a television interview with Fox News Channel's Greta Van Susteren, which aired Monday night, the former Buffalo Bills running back commented on a variety of issues, including the 10th anniversary of his former wife's murder, the concept of date rape, and a reality-television show he is developing.
During the 44-minute interview, Simpson said he was "angry" with Nicole Brown Simpson, and virtually blamed her for her own murder.
"I am angry with her. I am angry that she found herself hangin' out with this group of... who are these people?" he said. "I could count on my fingers the times I have seen Faye Resnick and this is a group of nomads, I guess, that Nicole started hanging out with after we were divorced. And her mother didn't like 'em."
Simpson further embarrassed himself during a conversation about NBA star Kobe Bryant's trial by laughing at the concept of date rape.
"I have certainly in my life had girls come to the room and say 'no' or say whatever. And when I was a kid growing up, just about every girl said 'no' once. You know, they had to, because you'd think they were a slut or something. In my opinion, date rape and stranger rape are two different things entirely."
Perhaps the most bizarre segment of the interview involved Simpson's claim that he is developing a reality-TV show similar to Ashton Kutcher's MTV show Punk'd.
"It's a takeoff on something called 'Punk'd', he told Van Susteren. It's me doing gags as, as Juice. Juice. What they call 'juicing' people."
Let's just hope his idea of 'juicing' his victims doesn't require the use of sharp objects!
