Redskins Key to Presidential Election
Thursday October 28, 2004
For the past few months, we've all been subjected to various polls suggesting that one presidential candidate is leading another in popularity, and many of us watched the debates between incumbent George Bush and challenger John Kerry. But if you are looking for a last-minute indication as to which candidate will win Election 2004 that is far more reliable than the Gallup Polls and claims of victory by each political party following the debates, look no further than the Washington Redskins.
That's right!
For nearly three quarters of a century, the Redskins have successfully predicted the outcome of each and every presidential election. It all began in 1933 when the Boston Braves changed their name to the Redskins, and since that time, the result of the team's final home game before the election has always correctly picked who will lead the nation for the next four years.
And the formula is simple. If the Redskins win, the incumbent wins. If the Redskins lose, the challenger takes office. So this weekend's match-up between the Green Bay Packers and the Redskins holds more at stake than simply two football teams trying to climb back into the playoff hunt. The fate of the nation could rest on the outcome as well! Yahoo! provides an election-by-election recap.
