Enough Randy Moss, What About the Games?
Tuesday January 11, 2005
Okay, okay... so Randy Moss screwed up again. ESPN and the rest of the sports media, we get the picture. If we didn't before, we all know now what an immature jerk Randy Moss can be. But can we get on with life and get back to the other big story in sports right now?
You know... the NFL Playoffs?
So, Moss acted like a goof again last weekend. Are we supposed to be surprised when they guy shows a lack of class? Obviously, what he did didn't belong in a nationally televised playoff game, but let's try to keep things in perspective here.
He PRETENDED to drop his pants!
The move was tasteless, but it hardly deserved the response it created. Such a tremendous uproar has come as a result of this sophomoric incident that it seems the media has almost shifted its focus from the playoff field to Randy's "end zone".
And perhaps that is exactly what Moss and the Vikings want. Take the focus off the team and they don't have to answer as many questions about how they stumbled into a playoff berth. Put it all on a guy that is used to dealing with it and really doesn't care how he is perceived.
Why not? It worked last week!
Moss took the heat, which resulted in less pressure on a team that seems to have a delicate psyche. With the media's focus on the enigmatic receiver after he skipped out on the final two seconds of the loss to the Washington Redskins, the team used the resulting negative press as a motivational tool to pull the team together in an us-against-the-world type of scenario. This latest stunt by Moss could be the best thing to happen to the Vikings as they prepare to go into Philadelphia to face the Eagles this weekend.
Makes you wonder, in a train-wreck sort of way, what Moss might have up his sleeve this weekend.
