Contrary to prior reports, Miami Dolphins running back Ricky Williams did fail a drug test and his recent violation of the league's substance abuse policy was not due to simply missing a random test. According to Jason Cole of The Miami Herald, Williams has tested positive for a substance other than marijuana, which could entail any number of different substances including illegal narcotics, prescription medication, over-the-counter medication, or even alcohol.
''This whole thing is a little confusing," Cole cites one source as saying. "I'll just leave it at that. The best way to say it is he violated the program.''
Assuming his source has legitimate inside information into the situation, I'm led to believe this isn't your typical cut-and-dried positive drug test. Unfortunately, the league doesn't discuss these matters, so we may never know what caused this latest violation.
