Davis Creates Buzz at NFL Combine
Tuesday February 28, 2006
Since the college football season ended, Maryland tight end Vernon Davis has steadily climbed most draft boards. And in Indianapolis on Monday, he may have solidified a spot among the elite prospects in the 2006 NFL Draft class.
To begin with, he measured in at an inch taller (6-3) than had been expected. However, it was his speed in the forty-yard dash that created a buzz among those in attendance at the NFL Combine. Davis burned up the track with an amazing time of 4.38; a time that most wide receivers would envy, and is almost unheard of for a 255 pound tight end. For good measure, Davis displayed a very athletic 42 inch vertical leap, leaving scouts drooling over the possibilities a player with his talents could bring to an offense.
Davis didn't stand out as much in the agility drills, and he dropped some passes in positional workouts. But overall he displayed the natural athletic ability that solidifies him as a top-ten pick come April.
