Redskins Load Up on Receivers

Sunday March 12, 2006
The Washington Redskins' receiving corps was bolstered in a big way over the weekend when the team acquired a big-name free agent and dealt a couple draft picks to reel in another.

On Saturday, they used a third-round pick this year and a fourth-round selection in 2007 to land the 49ers Brandon Lloyd, who is entering just his fourth year in the league. Lloyd has a habit of making the spectacular catches look routine, but he lacks concentration at times, and there were rumors that he didn't see eye to eye with the coaching staff in San Francisco.

On Sunday, the Redskins added a multi-dimensional weapon in Antwan Randle EL, who reportedly had turned down an earlier offer from the Chicago Bears. Randle El should add a spark to the return game and see a lot of time in the slot. With both Lloyd and Randle El joining speedster Santana Moss, expect the Redskins to employ a lot of three-receiver sets this year

Randle El's deal, which includes an $11.5 million bonus, is for $31 million over seven years, but can be voided after the sixth.

The Redskins also signed tight end Christian Fauria, who will replace Robert Royal in the lineup. Join the discussion...
