Parcells Speaks

Saturday May 6, 2006
Nearly two months after the Dallas Cowboys signed wide receiver Terrell Owens, head coach Bill Parcells has finally broken the silence that has led many to speculate that he is not on board with the acquisition. By all appearances, however, that couldn't be further from the truth.

In fact, according to Associated Press reports, Parcells says he doesn't see the move as a gamble.

"It's in my best interest that he's successful," Parcells told reporters Friday. "And it's in his best interest that he's successful."

And that's what I've been saying all along. For the 2006 season, the signing of Owens isn't a huge gamble. Yeah, he's been run out of San Francisco and Philadelphia. But that works to the Cowboys' advantage.

Owens can't afford to screw up again. At least not this year.

I suspect once he has a big season for the Cowboys in 2006, he'll start comparing the dollars on his contract with those being signed by lesser players. And that could cause a problem down the line. But for now, Owens' presence vaults the Cowboys among the best teams in the league.
