Cowboys' Davis Shot

Sunday July 16, 2006
Dallas Cowboys free safety Keith Davis, according to the Dallas Morning News, was shot multiple times Sunday morning while driving on Interstate 635. The report indicates the incident took place at about 5 a.m. Sunday when a dark-colored vehicle with tinted windows pulled alongside Davis's Chevrolet Impala and someone in that vehicle shot at him and his passenger several times.

This is the second time in three years Davis has been shot. In June 2003, he was shot twice outside a Dallas strip club.

In this latest attack, the News reports Davis was struck in the back of the head and his right thigh, but his injuries are not life threatening. He is currently recovering at the Baylor medical Center, but there has been no indication at this point as to how long he might be sidelined.

Fantasy Impact: Davis is not currently ranked among the top 30 defensive backs for IDP leagues, so this should have little to no impact on his individual fantasy value. As far as the Cowboys as a defensive unit, free safety was generally regarded as the unit's weakest point. If Davis misses extended time, someone like rookie Pat Watkins will need to step forward, but I don't think the loss of Davis will considerably weaken the defensive unit's fantasy value.
