Jets Get Their Running Back... Again
Just days ago, the New York Jets traded for Cleveland running back Lee Suggs, only to see their efforts go by the wayside when he failed to pass a physical with the team. So they went back to work, and Sunday landed 49ers RB Kevan Barlow to compete for the No. 1 tailback job that appears will be vacated by injured veteran Curtis Martin. The Jets, in return will send an undisclosed draft pick to the 49ers in 2007.
Barlow will compete with Derrick Blaylock, who made a case for himself as the starter with 46 yards on 10 carries Saturday against the Redskins.
Fantasy Impact: Barlow's fantasy draft value had been plummeting as his grasp on the starting job in San Francisco appeared to be slipping away to the emerging Frank Gore. A ticket out of town could turn out to be the best thing for Barlow, but I wouldn't get too crazy about jacking this guy's fantasy value up. The fact that he has a better chance of starting certainly adds to his value, but I've never been overly-impressed with his potential as a fantasy player... or as a starting NFL running back for that matter. Meanwhile, Gore should see his stock continue to grow now that he has apparently solidified himself as the 49ers' starter.
