Take the case of the Detroit Lions' Roy Williams. It's bad enough that he guaranteed a win last weekend over the Chicago Bears, a team coming off a convincing shutout of the Green Bay Packers, while his team struggled to put two field goals on the board. Reminded of that fact, Williams retorted that it was "stupid" how close they were to actually putting 40 points on the board.
During the ensuing 34-7 pasting Williams' Lions took Sunday, the third-year wideout continued to make a fool of himself by striking a first-down pose following his first reception of the day. The Lions were losing 10-0 at the time.
After the game, Mitch Albom of the Detroit Free Press was witness to even more idiocy by Williams. Here's a transcript of their exchange:
"Shouldn't poses like that wait until things are looking better?" Albom asked after the game."I celebrate first downs all the time." Williams answered. "I'm not gonna stop that. I'm an exciting player. If I do something exciting, I'm gonna show my actions."
"But you were losing, 10-0."
"What does that mean? ... That means nothing to me. The score means nothing."
And it gets even better, believe it or not. Not only is this guy stupid enough to announce the score of the game means nothing to him, he issued yet another guarantee of sorts for the upcoming weekend.
"You can all run with this: We will win the [next] game," he told reporters. "I don't care who it's against. We will win the game as long as we do what we're supposed to do. That's my comment for the whole week."
Someone on this team needs to show some leadership by shutting this guy up before he opens his mouth again!
