Sports Parents Gone Bad

Having coached a variety of youth sports over the years, I think I can speak for most other parents willing to volunteer their time when I say the most difficult part of the job has nothing to do with the kids themselves. The worst often comes in dealing with the parents, many of whom take things far too seriously. And with the passing of every baseball, soccer, football, and basketball season, it seems things get further and further out of control.

Take, for example, the game between the Oxford Circle Raiders and the Burholme Outlaws Sunday in Northeast Philadelphia. Police say, according to WNBC, a father pulled a .357 Magnum pistol on a youth football coach because his son wasn't getting enough playing time... in his league featuring five- and six-year-olds.

That's right. With dozens of Barney-loving kids running around on the field, this idiot thinks the best way to get his point across is to start flashing a firearm. Fortunately, no one got hurt, but you have to wonder what was going on in this guy's head. My guess is, probably not much... ever.

Wayne Derkotch, 46, was charged with aggravated assault in the incident. Investigators are still trying to locate his brain to determine whether it was involved in the alleged act.
