Chargers, Bears Lead Pro Bowl Selections

Wednesday December 20, 2006
The rosters for the 2007 Pro Bowl were announced Tuesday, and it comes as no surprise that the 12-2 Chargers lead all teams with nine players selected. The obvious choice of running back LaDainian Tomlinson will join quarterback Philip Rivers, center Nick Hardwick, tight end Antonio Gates, and fullback Lorenzo Neal in representing San Diego on the offensive side of the ball.

Defensively, the Chargers will send to Hawaii defensive tackle Jamal Williams and linebacker Shawne Merriman, who is a bit of a controversial selection after missing four games as a result of a positive test for steroids. Kicker Nate Kaeding and special teamer Kassim Osgood were also selected.

In the NFC, the Bears received the most honors with seven, and all of them are on defense and special teams, with the exception of center Olin Kreutz. Joining linebacker Brian Urlacher on the NFC's defensive squad is outside linebacker Lance Briggs, and defensive tackle Tommie Harris. Special teams selections include kicker Robbie Gould, return specialist Devin Hester, and Brendon Ayanbadejo.
