Supplemental Draft Offers Few Options

Of these players, probably only Gaither and Oliver (pictured) have a legitimate shot at being drafted. Gaither, who has tremendous size and solid potential, could be selected as early as the middle rounds. Oliver could also be selected in that area. However, with the recent crackdown on character issues in the NFL, teams might be a little reluctant to burn a first-day pick on a guy who flunked out of college.
Patrick is another guy who might just slip in there in the later rounds, but I don't see where there will be much interest in any of the remaining field.
The Supplemental Draft, held after the traditional NFL Draft and before each season begins, is designed to allow underclassmen -- who did not petition the league for early entry before the NFL Draft deadline but find themselves ineligible for the upcoming college season -- a vehicle for entering the NFL.
