Bill Walsh: 1931-2007

Monday July 30, 2007
The National Football League lost one of its all-time greatest offensive minds with the passing of former San Francisco 49ers head coach Bill Walsh Monday at the age of 75.

Walsh was an innovator who led the 49ers to three Super Bowl championships. His teams compiled a gaudy 102-63-1 regular-season record, and he won 10 of the 14 postseason games his teams played in. With six division titles and two NFL Coach of the Year awards also on his resume, he earned induction into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1993.

Following his San Francisco days, Walsh worked as a broadcaster and coached at Stanford University. He eventually returned to work in the 49ers front office, but there's no question his biggest contribution to the world of football was the development of the West Coast Offense.

According to numerous sources, Walsh died at his Woodside home following a long battle with leukemia.
