Vick Co-Defendant Copping a Plea

Monday July 30, 2007
The mountain of evidence against Michael Vick in the dogfighting scandal that has followed him for weeks now seems to grow on a daily basis, and sitting atop the hill apparently will soon be Tony Taylor, a co-defendant. According to Associated Press reports, Taylor is prepared to enter into a plea agreement, which is very bad news for Vick.

A hearing has been scheduled for Taylor at 9 a.m. Monday to discuss the plea agreement, which most likely includes Taylor's cooperation in the case against Vick.

Of course, defense lawyers will try to undermine Taylor's credibility by pointing out to jurors that he is, in fact, receiving a lighter punishment in return for his testimony. Also, simply admitting his involvement in the operation in a court of law, which the plea bargain will require him to do, Taylor is damaging his credibility further.

But make no mistake. This is a serious, serious problem for Vick and his lawyers. If Taylor can give details of conversations between he and Vick that place the Atlanta Falcons QB in the middle of the alleged operation, and do it in a manner that is convincing to the jury, Vick is toast.

As is his NFL career.
