Randy Moss is Back

Sunday September 9, 2007
If there were any doubts about how well Randy Moss would fit in with the New England Patriots, I think they're pretty much out the window following Sunday's performance against the New York Jets. With questions surrounding his ability to fit in with Bill Belichick's one-for-all, all-for-one mentality, Moss hung 183 yards receiving on his brand new division rival, and showed he hasn't lost his ability to get deep by connecting with quarterback Tom Brady on several long passes, including a 51-yard touchdown.

Following a couple injury-riddle, down seasons in Oakland in which Moss appeared to quit on his team, there were legitimate concerns that he had lost a step and, at the least, had lost his desire to play. But it didn't look that way Sunday as the enigmatic receiver torched the Jets secondary time and time again.

Considering the fact that Moss didn't see the field during the preseason because of a sore hamstring, and has had very little time to build a chemistry with Brady, yet still mangaed to post such gaudy numbers should have the rest of the league very concerned.

Just exactly what might this duo be able to accomplish once they get time to get comfortable with each other?

Egads!

Dare I say this combination has the potential to be this generation's Joe Montana to Jerry Rice, even if for only a couple seasons?

Call it enigmatic, call it mercurial, call it moody, take your pick. Randy is a more skillful facsimile than T. Owens with the same behavioral characteristics.
He will have a great career with Tom Brady and the Patriots and will, I hope, get that SuperBowl ring he covets.
