Favre Sets NFL Passing Record

Monday December 17, 2007
Add another milestone to the illustrious career of Green Bay Packers quarterback Brett Favre. With a seven-yard, fourth-quarter strike to Donald Driver, the future Hall of Famer passed the legendary Dan Marino, Sunday, capturing the NFL's all-time record for passing yards. Following a couple tough seasons that fueled speculation he would soon retire, Favre has rebounded into his former Pro-Bowl form, and is re-writing the career record book for quarterbacks. And he's looking, at this point, as if he could continue playing for several more years, much to the dismay of former first-round draft pick Aaron Rogers.

Earlier this season, Favre eclipsed Marino's record for passing touchdowns, and he also holds the career mark for completions. He claimed a more dubious distinction this year, though, of being the league's all-time leader in interceptions, which is a byproduct of the aggressive style he has displayed throughout his career.

Despite the fact he has been picked off more than any other quarterback, Favre shouldn't be excluded from any talk about the greatest QB ever. Along with all his accolades, he has collected three league MVP awards and a Super Bowl victory. Whether or not he is the best ever is certainly debatable. But it's very hard, in my opinion, to argue that he hasn't been the most entertaining.
