Tuna Taking Over in Atlanta?

Wednesday December 19, 2007
2006 has been a year to forget for the Atlanta Falcons. The Michael Vick scandal combined with the ineptitude displayed on the field this season has the franchise in shambles. Like the drug addict or alcoholic, though, sometimes you have to hit rock bottom before things begin to get better. And this season has been about as low as it can get in terms of the on/off-field activity.

But is there finally a slight ray of sunshine for the Atlanta Falcons in a season of darkness? Will something good come from all the bungling and incompetence?

With FOXSports' Jay Glazer reporting Tuesday the Bill Parcells has been offered a job as the team's executive vice president, and the Tuna himself confirming Wednesday that he probably would accept the post, it seems something good is about to happen to this snake-bitten franchise.

Parcells reportedly would be in charge of all personnel decisions, along with the task of hiring a new head coach, which means that current general manager Rich McKay will either get the heave-ho or be slapped with a demotion.

This is a fantastic move by owner Arthur Blank, assuming a deal is actually consummated. Parcells has a tremendous history of evaluating talent, and his no-nonsense approach would instill a little more of the discipline that has been lacking.
