Playoff Field Down to Four

Four preseason games, 17 weeks of regular-season contests, and two rounds of playoff action find us with the Super Bowl XLIII playoff field narrowed to just the following four teams.

Familiar Foes Alive in AFC
The Baltimore Ravens and Pittsburgh Steelers have seen a lot of each other this season. Because they are both in the AFC North, they faced off twice in 2008 with the Steelers narrowly winning both contests. Since both teams won again over the weekend in the divisional round of the NFL playoffs, it looks like they'll face off for a critical third time with a trip to Super Bowl XLIII on the line. NFC's Most Unlikely Advance
If you have no rooting interest in the rest of the remaining playoff field, how can the Arizona Cardinals not be your sentimental favorite? I mean, c'mon. This is a team that has made just five playoff appearances since Harry Truman was in the White House, and has never played in an NFC championship game. It's time their fan base enjoys some success, right? Perhaps second only to the Cardinals in being the lovable underdog is the Philadelphia Eagles, who join the Cardinals to make a very unlikely duo in the NFC championship game. Read more...

In your Bati @ Pitts write-up, you mention its tough to beat an opponent three times in one season. Actually, teams have completed the 3-sweep 11 out of the last 18 times the situation has occurred.

That is true Greg, and a good point. But wouldn’t you think teams that have beaten another twice during the regular season would fare better than just barely over .500 against those same teams the third time around?
