Jets Displaying Interest in Cutler

Monday March 23, 2009
In an earlier post we mentioned the New York Jets as a potential suitor for quarterback Jay Cutler should the Denver Broncos grant his wish and trade him to another team. Granted, it was a fairly obvious observation based on the fact that the Jets don't really have a starting-caliber QB on their roster now that Brett Favre has retired (some might argue they didn't really have one over the second half of the 2008 season either). On Sunday, Gary Myers of the New York Daily News cited several sources at the owners' meetings as having confirmed that the club indeed has been in contact with the Broncos and wants in on the bidding if/when the young signal-caller hits the market.

For the Jets to land Cutler, however, it's almost necessary for a third team to get involved because Denver is going to need a starting quarterback in return and New York simply doesn't have anyone the Broncos would be interested in. So perhaps either the Cleveland Browns or Arizona Cardinals can use the opportunity to pick up some valuable draft picks for a potential starter who's currently sitting on their bench.

The ironic part in all of this, though, is that Cutler, who is represented by agent Bus Cook, could be acquired to replace a guy who last year at this time put up a fuss to get traded from his then-current team. That guy, of course, was Favre. And Favre was represented by (you guessed it) Bus Cook.

Which leads me to wonder... who does Cook think he is? Drew Rosenhaus?
