Tennessee Titans 2003-04 Playoff Team

By James Alder, About.com

Regular Season Record:

12-4

All-Time Playoff Record: 14-17

Best Offensive Player:

QB Steve McNair

Most Pivotal Offensive Player:

RB Eddie George/Chris Brown
George averaged just 3.3 yards per carry during the regular season. As a result, Brown has taken away some of the load and could see even more action in the playoffs if George is shut down.

Best Defensive Player:

This is a tough call, so I'm going to give it to the entire defensive line, which led the league in run defense.

Pivotal Defensive Player:

DE Jevon Kearse
I'm not sure Kearse has ever really returned to the same level he played at before the foot injury, but he did record double-digit sacks this year. He must continue to keep the pressure on in the post-season.

Strength:

Tennessee had the top-rated run defense in the NFL during the regular season.

Weakness:

The Titans have the 30th ranked pass defense in the league. Part of the reason they are ranked so low is because teams often give up on the run when it's unsuccessful and throw more, but they still need to tighten up the secondary some in the playoffs.

Overview:

The Titans are another strong defensive team, especially against the run, and with Steve McNair on the field, the offense puts as many points on the board as nearly every team in the league. Their running game is suspect, but McNair always seems to find a way to keep the chains moving.

The Titans are a serious Super Bowl contender despite entering the playoffs as a wild card.
