Definition: An acronym for either the Arena Football League or the American Football League.

Also Known As: Arena Football League, American Football League

Examples: The AFL (Arena Football League) is similar to the NFL, but is played indoors on a smaller field. The old American Football League merged with the NFL in 1970, creating an expanded NFL made up of two conferences, the AFC and NFC.
