Definition: An artificial surface used instead of grass on some football fields.

Also Known As: artificial turf

Examples: Astroturf was first used in pro sports in 1966 when the Houston Astros began playing inside the Astrodome. Before the installation in the Astrodome, Astroturf was called Chemgrass.
