2004

March 19
The NFL released a run-down of all the official signings since the free agent signing period began on March 3. This list includes only the deals that have been officially reported to the league, so a few of the latest deals, like those below, are not included. Check the official list...

Among the more notable deals that are not on this list are:

• The Dallas Cowboys officially acquired the rights to quarterback Drew Henson from Read more...

Wide receiver Terrell Owens finally got what he wanted Tuesday when the San Francisco 49ers and the Baltimore Ravens agreed on compensation that would allow the enigmatic receiver to join his team of choice... the Philadelphia Eagles.

The Eagles sent a fifth-round draft pick to Baltimore for backing away from the trade that originally sent Owens to the Ravens. Baltimore will also get back the second-round pick they gave up in the trade. Defensive end Brandon Whiting was sent to San Francisco as compensation for the latest trade.

Owens is expected to sign a new deal with the Eagles, believed to be a seven-year contract worth about $42 million

March 15
Sal Paolantonio of ESPN is reporting that the 49ers and Eagles are discussing scenarios that would allow Terrell Owens to be traded to Philadelphia. Even as the NFL's special master ponders a ruling on the original trade that sent the disgruntled receiver to Baltimore, 11th-hour discussions are being conducted between the league, the players union, and the three teams involved to see if an amicable solution can be reached that would allow Owens to move to Philadelphia as a free agent while also compensating the Ravens and 49ers for their trouble the past couple weeks.

The new deal reportedly involves at least a third round pick and perhaps another player being sent to the 49ers in exchange for Owens. It is not clear what compensation the Ravens would receive for backing away from the original trade.

March 10
Free agent running back Duce Staley agreed to a five-year, $14 million deal with the Steelers on Tuesday, further indicating Pittsburgh will release Amos Zereoue in the near future. Another of this year's top free agent running backs found a new home earlier in the day when Charlie Garner agreed to a six-year, $20 million deal with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

The Seattle Seahawks were able to retain the services of wide receiver Darrell Jackson with a six-year, $25 million deal, but they lost linebacker Randall Godfrey to the San Diego Chargers.

• The Philadelphia Eagles signed free agent linebacker Dhani Jones to a five-year contract.
• The Oakland Raiders signed free agent guard Ron Stone.
• The Baltimore Ravens re-signed kicker Matt Stover to a five-year contract.
• The Atlanta Falcons signed free agent linebacker Eric Johnson while waiving defensive tackle Devone Claybrooks and linebacker James Cotton.
• The Seattle Seahawks re-signed defensive tackle Cedric Woodard to a multi-year contract.
• The Jacksonville Jaguars signed cornerback Dewayne Washington, guard Mike Compton, cornerback Lewis Sanders, and safety Deon Grant.

After reports by several sources had him all but signed, sealed, and delivered to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, quarterback Jeff Garcia agreed Monday to a four-year, $25 million deal with the Cleveland Browns. The signing indicates that former No.1 overall pick Tim Couch will either be traded or released in the not-too-distant future unless somehow the two sides can work out a renegotiated contract... which doesn't look likely.

The New York Giants continued to build up their defense, signing free agent linebacker Barrett Green while the Vikings look to fill the hole at No. 2 receiver with their signing of veteran Marcus Robinson, who had a bit of a resurgence with the Ravens last season.
