D.J. Williams

By James Alder, About.com

Position:

Outside Linebacker

School: Miami (Fla)

Status: Senior

Height:

6-1

Weight:

240

40-Yard Dash:

4.60 seconds

Positives:

D.J. Williams is tremendous player and has all the physical skills you look for in a linebacker. He is an excellent athlete. He has the strength to take on offensive linemen and the speed to range from sideline to sideline, chasing down running backs. He also has the ability to be as effective in pass coverage as he is rushing the quarterback. He wraps up well on tackles, and is the type of player that always seems to be around the ball.
Williams could play the strong side in the NFL, but I'm not sure he has the speed to play on the weak side. He could possibly be given a shot in the middle in the NFL.

Negatives:

Williams is still a bit raw, and he has trouble getting off blocks at times... needs to learn to use his hands better. He also tends to overpusue at times and needs to improve his play recognition.

Projection:

Had he declared for the 2003 NFL Draft, D.J. Williams probably would have gone in the mid-to-late first round. This year, he could be a top-15 pick.
