Position:
Running Back
School: Florida State
Status: Senior
Height:
6-1
Weight:
245
40-Yard Dash:
4.43 seconds
Positives:
Greg Jones is a big, powerful back that can run over defenders, but he also has good quickness, speed, and athleticism for a back his size. He has the ability to either make defenders miss or simply lower his shoulder and run them over. He picks up yardage after contact... very tough to bring down one-on-one.
He possesses good vision and instincts for finding the hole. He has a good burst through the hole and makes nice cuts... deceptively elusive. He is also a very solid blocker... picks up the blitz well.
Negatives:
He is just one year removed from a major knee injury, so health is still a concern. If he returns to pre-injury form, he could make a huge impact in the NFL.
Although Jones does have initial quickness, he does not have the speed to run away from the defense once he gets in the open field. He also lacks experience in the passing game.
Projection:
If healthy, Jones could have been a top-10 pick in the 2004 NFL Draft. I think his ability will really begin to emerge next season when he is at 100%. Right now, he looks like a solid second round pick, and could move up into the later stages of the first round.
