Positives:
Marquise Hill is an oversized defensive end who possesses a good burst off the line, decent straight-line speed, and the strength to bull-rush opponents. His terrific height and wingspan make him tough for offensive tackles to control and should allow him to knock down a lot of passes in the NFL. He is solid against the run and holds the point of attack very well. He's also a strong tackler with a good closing burst. He has a non-stop motor and always plays hard.
Hill was a dominant defensive lineman for the Tigers as a junior. He recorded 40 tackles, including 10.5 behind the line of scrimmage, had six sacks, and led the team with 24 quarterback hurries.
Negatives:
He has good athleticism and quickness for his size, but he's not going to blow by anyone coming off the edge. He needs to work on his recognition skills, especially against the run. He also plays a little too upright at times and needs to learn to fight off defenders better with his hands.
Projection:
Marquise Hill is still a little raw, but has tremendous upside. If he continues to fill out, he could be moved to defensive tackle in the NFL, but at this time, he is probably a better fit at defensive end. He looks to be a late-first to mid-second-round pick in the 2004 NFL Draft.
