Randy Starks

By James Alder, About.com

Position:

Defensive Tackle

School: Maryland

Status: Junior

Height :

6-4

Weight:

305

40-Yard Dash:

Positives:

Randy Starks is a one-gap tackle with good size and quickness. He is incredibly powerful and has a quick first step off the line, which allows him to be a disruptive force inside. He gets a good jump off the ball and shows a good burst out of his stance. He has tremendous lower-body strength and should be a force against the run... could play end in a 3-4 set.
In 2003, Starks recorded 74 tackles (39 solo), 7½ sacks, and led Maryland with 14½ tackles behind the line of scrimmage. He finished his career ranked ninth at Maryland with 17½ sacks and 34 tackles for losses.

Negatives:

He struggles against double teams and does not hold up well in multiple gap assignments. He also has less than two years experience as a starter at the college level.

Projection:

Starks is very athletic for his size and has a tremendous upside. He will most likely be a mid-to-late first-round pick in the 2004 NFL Draft.
