Troy Polamalu, S USC Troy Polamalu led USC with 118 tackles, 13 tackles for a loss, three interceptions, two forced fumbles, and three blocked kicks. Simply put, the kid is a playmaker. In my opinion, he's the best safety in the draft and will be picked in the second half of the first round. Mike Doss, S The Ohio State Mike Doss is a big hitter, but he tends to get lost in coverage at times, and does a little too much freelancing. He has good instincts and adequate range in zone coverage. He's considered by many scouts to be the best safety in the 2003 NFL Draft and could be picked in the second half of the first round.
Ken Hamlin, S Arkansas Ken Hamlin is a hard-hitting safety with decent speed, who always seems to be around the ball. He doesn't have great size, but is very physical and can cover the run from sideline to sideline. Off-field problems could cause him to fall to the third round of the NFL Draft. Terrence Holt, S North Carolina State Terrance Holt is a good run defender, but has questionable speed. Had a knack for blocking kicks at North Carolina State. Looks to be a first-day draft choice, probably third round. Julian Battle, S Tennessee Safety Julian Battle has a ton of ability, but questions surround his work ethic. He has good size, athletic ability, and coverage skills. He played cornerback and safety at Tennessee but is projected as a free safety in the NFL. Has the talent to be a second-round pick in the NFL Draft, but his questionable work ethic will probably push him down to the third.
