"Don't be surprised if the Rams trade Trent Green to Kansas City for the 12th overall pick. I think this will go down soon, and could change the whole rest of the first round, because the Rams will most certainly pick a DT, DE, or possibly Dan Morgan if available."

Another playoff spot was decided in XFL action Sunday, leaving just one spot open with one week remaining. The San Francisco Demons took the second playoff spot in the Western Division by beating their main competition, the Las Vegas Outlaws, 14-9.

Running back Rod Smart put the once-dominating Outlaws ahead, 6-0, with a one-yard touchdown run late in the second quarter, but the Demons tied the game before halftime when Lee Cole recovered a Las Vegas fumble in the end zone.

Midway through the third quarter, the Demons took a 12-6 lead on a 25-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Mike Pawlawski to Terry Battle. The Outlaws added a field goal in the fourth, but a possible game-winning drive was stopped when Smart fumbled the ball on the one-yard line and through the end zone for a touchback.

In other XFL action on Sunday, Jim Druckenmiller threw three touchdown passes as the Memphis Maniax upset the Los Angeles Xtreme, 27-12. Running back Ketric Sanford rushed for 82 yards for Memphis, including a 30-yard touchdown that put the Maniax up 13-0 in the second quarter. Los Angeles quarterback Tommy Maddox was just 17-of-38 for 155 yards, with two interceptions and no touchdowns.

The last playoff spot in the east remained open as the New York/New Jersey Hitmen failed to hold off a late comeback by the Chicago Enforcers Saturday night in New Jersey. Quarterback Kevin McDougal threw a 19-yard touchdown pass to tight end Willy Tate with 1:41 to play to give the Chicago Enforcers a 23-18 victory.

The Hitmen attempted a comeback of their own, but linebacker Jamie Beasley intercepted a pass at the goal line with two seconds to play to cement the victory.

NY/NJ could have locked up a playoff spot with a win Saturday, but now Chicago is the team that controls its own destiny. If the Enforcers beat Orlando next week in Chicago, they lock up the final playoff spot. For the Hitmen to get into the postseason, Chicago must lose to Orlando and NY/NJ must beat the Birmingham Thunderbolts.

Saturday's other contest between the Birmingham Thunderbolts and the Orlando Rage went true to form with the Rage continuing their winning ways while the Bolts losing streak grew to six games. The Thunderbolts actually outplayed the Rage most of the game, but Derrick Clark scored on a one-yard touchdown run with 26 seconds remaining to give the Rage a 29-24 win. The winning score was set up by a pass interference penalty and two personal fouls, typifying the season for Birmingham as they became the first team officially eliminated from postseason play.
