Kicking things around...
Many questioned the Raiders' logic when they picked a place kicker in the first round of the NFL draft back in April. I remember thinking at the time:
"WOW... a kicker in the first round? That's almost unheard of. What are the Raiders thinking?"
Sebastian Janikowski is expected to be a great NFL kicker, but after he was arrested Wednesday on drug charges, Al Davis and his brain trust must be asking themselves the same question.
To make things worse, Janikowski is not a United States citizen so his status in this country could be reviewed by federal immigration officials. Deportation is not out of the question.
He's Back...
Rumors around the league have Reggie White coming out of retirement to join the Tennessee Titans. The NFL's all-time sack leader is allegedly interested in making a come back and playing for two more seasons, but first he must be released by the Green Bay Packers.
Reggie joining the Titans makes sense from the standpoint that he is originally from Tennessee. He would also be reunited with his old Philadelphia Eagle's defensive coordinator Jeff Fisher. Can you say third down specialist?
Say it isn't so...
So the Packers want to sell the naming rights to Lambeau Field to the highest bidder. I don't like it, but it is the 21st century and that is the way sports stadiums are named anymore.
I just hope the high bid goes to someone like the Wisconsin Cheese Association or a similar organization. The frozen tundra of Ben Gay Field just doesn't have the same nostalgic ring to it.
If I could be the first to make a suggestion, I really like the name About Pro Football Stadium. Has a real nice sound to it don't you think?
Oh, by the way...
Another NFL athlete gets the hat trick on drug test failures and is gone for a year. This one from the Tennessee Titans. Does the NFL really care? Does anyone really care?
