In one of our more infamous threads on the About Football Forum, I just couldn't resist rubbing salt in the wounds of one of our fanatical trash talking Cowboy fans, even though I am really not normally a Cowboy basher or a trash talker by nature.

Honest... I swear on my Brian Urlacher bobble-head doll that I'm not.

I actually feel bad about the way the Cowboys season has started. Not as bad as I would feel if it were my Bears, but I do feel for them nonetheless.

Losing Raghib Ismail for the season and then losing to the Houston Texans was not exactly the way the Cowboys had hoped to start the season, and now, to top it all off, they've lost middle linebacker Dat Nguyen for 6-8 weeks. The loss really weakens what was supposed to be one of their strengths, especially when you consider they only have five linebackers on the roster and their backups are better suited to play the outside.

And watching Quincy Carter struggle Sunday night was not real encouraging either. Despite what I have been told by others on The About Football Forum, I am still hearing rumors that there is a bit of a quarterback controversy behind closed doors. I know that Dave Campo and Jerry Jones have stood behind Carter in the media (ah... the dreaded vote of confidence), but what else would you expect them to do. If they don't feel Hutchinson is ready to take over just yet, the last thing they want to do is shake whatever confidence Carter has by naming Hutchinson the QB of the future.

Even without hearing the wispers that keep getting louder and louder, I would have to wonder why the Cowboys would give Hutch a $3.1 mil signing bonus, and guarantee him $5 mil over the next three years if they truly believe Quincy Carter is the long-term solution.

Just my opinion, but if Carter puts in a couple more performances like Sunday night, those whispers will turn into screams, and Hutchinson will find himself on the field.

The season certainly isn't over for the Boys by any means, and this first game could serve as a wake up call, but Cowboy fans have to be just a little discouraged by the direction things have gone the past few weeks and by the injury bug that has bitten them early and often.

Any thoughts?
