Strengths:
- Great size and speed
- Very athletic
- Good arm strength and accurate passer
- Throws well from both the pocket and on the run
- Makes big plays with both his arm and legs
- Plays with a lot of confidence
Weaknesses:
- Very raw talent who will need time to develop
- Questionable throwing mechanics, has a long windup
Bottom Line on Colin Kaepernick:
Colin Kaepernick is an exciting but raw prospect who could perhaps make the move to wide receiver if he doesn't make it as a quarterback in the NFL. He has the size and arm to be effective, but he must continue to improve his footwork and throwing mechanics.
Projection: Kaepernick certainly needs to continue polishing his game at the next level, which is why he should be viewed as a developmental prospect with a huge upside. With a good performance in the Senior Bowl and solid pre-draft workouts, he could push his way into the second round of the 2011 NFL Draft. He should be selected by the third round based on raw talent alone.
