Hall of Fame head coach George Allen owns the distinction of never having a losing season in 12 years as a head coach in the NFL. He is credited with turning around the Los Angeles Rams, a perennial loser before he took over in 1966. Later, he performed the same magic on the Washington Redskins, a team that had just one winning season in the 15 years prior to his arrival.

George Allen started his coaching career at Morningside College in 1948 before leaving for Whittier College in 1951, where he spent the next six years. He made his NFL debut with the Rams in 1957, and a year later was hired by the Chicago Bears as a defensive assistant.

In 1963, Allen was awarded the game ball following the NFL Championship Game in which his defense recorded five turnovers. Later was named to his first NFL head coaching assignment with the Rams.

George Allen passed away on December 31, 1990 at the age of 72.
