Jimmy Williams

From Matt Malott, About.com Guest

Positional Rankings: QB RB FB WR TE OT OG C - DE DT ILB OLB S CB - K P

Position: Cornerback

School: Virginia Tech

Status: Senior

Height: 6-2

Weight: 205

40-Yard Dash: 4.50(est)

Positives:

One of the best things about Jimmy, is that he can play both corner and safety. He has the most fluid hips of any CB in the draft other than Antonio Cromartie, who is injured. He also has good recognition between run and pass, and route recognition. He's a smart player that won't make many mistakes on the field. His good leaping ability allows him to compete with WRs in jump-ball situations.

Negatives:

Williams isn't the fastest cornerback in the draft with a 4.5 40-yard dash. This will hurt him when he has to cover the faster WRs in the league. He may struggle recognizing play action with some of the leagues best QBs. Williams may not be strong enough to get off blocks from some of the stronger WRs, which will cause him to not be able to make some plays.

Overview:

Originally, he would have been the second cornerback taken, but with the injury to Antonio Cromartie, he will be the first CB off the board. He made the switch from safety to corner last season, so he's a little raw, but he will only get better. His first year in the NFL will be either as a No. 2 or nickel player. He could develop into one of the better CBs if he gets faster and stronger. Williams should be a top-10 pick depending on which teams hold the picks.
